A 30 amp rating and the ability to produce 200°F air temperatures makes the Power Hunt hair dryer the most powerful 12 volt hair dryer available anywhere. Great Emergency Item
By Drifter-99
I bought this for the wife in case of a power outage. We did not want to run an extension cord to the Master Bath from a generator so we have a Duracell 600 portable battery pack and a Brunton Solaris 26 solar charger. We charged the battery and the wife used the hair dryer and 12 volt lights for a week during a power outage. Although the hair dryer is about a fourth as powerful as a 120 volt model, she was able to dry her hair in about double normal time. She said it worked fine, not like the cheap ones I tried that plug into a 12 volt outlet. The battery lasted about 3 days before needing recharging. My wife is very happy with this as a backup (I found out that for women, drying their hair in the mornings is kind of an emergency). This item does what it is intended to do. By the way, to hook it up to a portable battery pack, just use the jumper cables from the battery pack and clamp them to the Power Hunt leads. Works great.

Not really "powerful," but the best at 12V so far
By Jeffrey Beeman
It's always tricky to find 12V appliances that work like the ones you're used to at home. You want to hit the open road or open seas, and your girlfriend is telling you "OK, but can I at least have a hairdryer?" This unit comes close. In order to deliver enough power at only 12V, a heater appliance needs to draw a LOT of current. Power Hunt does this by selling you a high amperage outlet (circuit protected to 70 amps or so) that you connect directly to your deep cycle battery. It uses very large wire, which is necessary for such high current. Side note: You can NOT run this off of a cigarette lighter plug, or any other "typical" car circuit for that matter. The vehicle wiring and fuses are not nearly stout enough to handle this much current. So... you purchase the outlet and the hairdryer, hook the outlet up directly to the battery, and you will ultimately end up with a hairdryer that blows about as hard as your home unit on its LOW setting. Not a ton of air, not a ton of heat, but it might be OK to keep your girlfriend in the camper with you. The hairdryer draws around 30 Watts, which makes it roughly equivalent to a hairdryer at 400 W in your home. Happy trails...
